Summary of Functional Changes

Effective immediately, the FIL cross-chain functionality from Bifrost to the Filecoin EVM network will be discontinued. Some on-chain modules related to vFIL and FIL will also be decommissioned. The resulting functional status is as follows:

Unsupported Functions

Minting vFIL on Bifrost
Minting & redeeming vFIL via SLPx on Moonbeam
Bridging FIL from Filecoin EVM to Bifrost
Bridging FIL from Bifrost to Filecoin EVM

Still Supported Functions

Redeeming vFIL for FIL on Bifrost
Cross-asset operations of vFIL between Bifrost and Moonbeam

Handling for Existing Users

Due to these service changes, the main concern for users is how to withdraw FIL value from Bifrost back to Filecoin. Although automated cross-chain services on Bifrost are no longer available, we will continue to support users in transferring FIL back through periodic governance actions. Users can follow these steps to request cross-chain transfer of their FIL from Bifrost to Filecoin EVM:

1. Verify the Target Cross-chain Address

Since the address format of Filecoin EVM differs from Bifrost addresses, users need to provide on-chain proof of the target address. Steps:

Identify your desired target EVM address, e.g., 0xb29eaea575bd4bae7d9a301446e6204c3a23adf1.
Go to Bifrost via the polkadot.js App: https://polkadot.js.org/apps/?rpc=wss%3A%2F%2Feu.bifrost-polkadot-rpc.liebi.com%2Fws#/accounts
Go to Developer → Extrinsics
Select the system pallet and the remarkWithEvent method. In remark: Bytes, enter your target Filecoin EVM address in this format:

FIL target EVM Address: 0xb29eaea575bd4bae7d9a301446e6204c3a23adf1
Click Submit Transaction and sign it. A successful transaction completes the target address verification.

2. Submit the Request Form

Fill out the form according to the instructions to submit your FIL cross-chain governance request.

3. Wait for Bifrost Governance Execution

Bifrost will periodically review and aggregate requests. Valid requests will trigger the following on-chain governance actions:

Burn all FIL tokens in the requesting Bifrost address
Transfer the corresponding amount of FIL to the verified target address on Filecoin EVM

Other notes:

Requests from Bifrost addresses with zero FIL balance will be skipped

Once the FIL arrives at the Filecoin EVM address, the process is complete. We appreciate the community’s support and understanding for Bifrost.
