Hello Bifrost Community,
I am reaching out to seek your collective insight and potentially rally support for a referendum concerning an unfortunate mistake that resulted in a significant loss of my DOT tokens. Here’s a detailed overview of the situation:
- Transaction Details: I intended to send 9,270.077 DOT to my Binance DOT address, identified as a Binance user address on Polkadot Subscan: https://polkadot.subscan.io/account/12eaQjePvYb6XvXyQsGsrepwYTPGXH3pGkpDKqMUhMeuwpfG. Unfortunately, I mistakenly sent the funds from the Bifrost network instead of the Polkadot network using the Talisman wallet. The transaction can be verified here: https://bifrost.subscan.io/tx/0xd0ce4c90c5a6896653410e720273ec5204629452fdab65989330835aaeb9b1b4
- Current Status of Funds: The DOT is now stuck in a Bifrost address (same address but format transferred to Bifrost): https://bifrost.subscan.io/account/dNXxgtpEHqTUGxkr4Z284RVRNF2rNpwQQ911wDHUVDqdww3, due to incompatible network support by Binance. Binance is unable to retrieve or return the DOT tokens.
- Communication with Binance: I have extensively communicated with Binance support, escalating the issue in hopes of retrieving the funds. Binance’s responses emphasized their current lack of support for the Bifrost network and address conversion functionalities:
- “No Automatic Conversion Function: There is currently no function to automatically convert the address on your behalf.”
- “Para-chain (Bifrost) Support: In order to retrieve the amount, we need to support the Para-chain (Bifrost) and also implement the feature of address conversion, which we do not support yet.”
- “after consulting with multiple tech&dev department inside our organization, they have confirmed the aforementioned reasons for not being able to return the funds to you via our usual methods, and they have also responded that our wallet management method does not allow any developer to manually trigger sending the tokens.”
- "We do not have access to the network to work on this hence there is nothing we can do in this regard I am afraid. The tokens are stuck on the network at the moment and they need to be retrieved."
- “It’s possible that we can support [Bifrost] in the future; however, due to the technicality of the feature the timeline is uncertain.”
- Feedback Sought: Given the substantial amount at stake and the technical barriers outlined by Binance, I am exploring the possibility of initiating a community-driven effort to potentially address this issue at the network level and retrieve the DOT tokens.
- Next Steps: Based on the community’s feedback, I would like to draft a formal proposal to be considered for voting. The goal is to explore all possible avenues to safely retrieve the funds and prevent such losses in the future due to network mismatches.
I appreciate your time in reading this and would immensely value any advice, technical guidance, or support you could provide. I cannot express enough how apologetic and foolish I feel for making this oversight. Thank you for your consideration and looking forward to the feedback.
Best regards
